FAQs
Dr. Danielle's Developmental Services
How are services paid for?
Dr. Danielle's Developmental Services accepts BCBS and Kansas Medicaid programs (Healthy Blue, KanCare Community, Sunflower) as in-network providers for occupational therapy services. We also work with private pay clients and can provide superbills for families seeking out-of-network reimbursement from their insurance carriers.Do I need a referral?
BCBS typically does not require a referral for occupational therapy services, and private-pay services also do not require a referral. Medicaid programs generally do require a referral. If you're seeking out-of-network reimbursement, contact your insurance company to determine whether pre-authorization is required, how many sessions are covered annually, your deductible, and where to submit out-of-network claims. What does the process look like?
Once you've completed the intake forms, Dr. Danielle will schedule an evaluation customized to your child's needs. The evaluation typically takes about one hour and includes discussing concerns with caregivers and observing the child during play. A follow-up meeting, also typically about one hour, will then be scheduled to review evaluation findings and establish treatment goals or determine if additional assessment is needed. One of the occupational therapy providers at DDDS will then implement the established plan of care. What does a typical session look like?
You'll bring your child to the clinic where you can either remain in the waiting room or accompany your child into the session. Sessions generally last one hour, though this may vary depending on your child's individual needs. Caregivers are always welcome to participate in sessions. Some children respond better with a caregiver present, while others perform better independently. For children birth to three years old, caregiver participation throughout the entire session is required to achieve optimal outcomes. Therapy sessions typically involve play-based activities. What age range do you serve?
Dr. Danielle's Developmental Services focuses primarily on pediatric care, serving children from birth through age 17 and their families. We also provide services to adults aged 18 and older when our therapeutic approach is appropriate for their needs.Who are these services for?
Dr. Danielle's Developmental Services serves any child and family with questions or concerns about their child's development or those seeking developmental support. This includes families wanting to confirm their child is meeting milestones and learn next steps, as well as those addressing delays in walking, handwriting difficulties, social skills development, self-regulation challenges, sensory processing concerns, or supporting development in children with a diagnosis or disability. We address all developmental areas and provide parent coaching to help children achieve their full potential. What are some signs my child might benefit from OT?
Common indicators include struggles with handwriting or fine motor activities, challenges with dressing or using eating utensils, sensory sensitivities, emotional regulation difficulties, coordination or motor planning problems, inability to complete age-appropriate daily tasks, or challenges participating successfully in home or school environments. What should I bring to my child's first appointment?
Please bring your insurance information if applicable, any relevant medical or developmental records, school-related information, and documentation from other providers if available. Most importantly, be prepared to discuss what you're observing at home or school and what you hope your child will be able to accomplish. How long will my child need occupational therapy?
Treatment duration varies for each child. The length and frequency of therapy sessions are determined by your child's specific needs, established goals, rate of progress, and ability to generalize skills to daily activities. We consistently evaluate progress and modify the treatment plan as needed. Will my insurance cover occupational therapy?
Coverage varies depending on your specific plan, your child's diagnosis, your benefits structure, authorization requirements, and additional factors. While we can assist you in understanding the process, families should contact their insurance provider directly to confirm benefits and coverage details.
